Maine’s Aging & Disability Resource Centers
Maine’s five Area Agencies on Aging/Aging & Disability Centers are designed as the main access point for information and assistance for older and disabled adults. Callers get information on benefits and care options and are connected with services.
Aroostook Area Agency on Aging
The Aroostook Area Agency on Aging, based in Presque Isle, is one of five Area Agencies on Aging that promotes independence, dignity and economic self-reliance for Maine’s 200,000+ seniors.
Eastern Area Agency on Aging
Eastern Area Agency on Aging is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization managed by a professional staff and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, comprised of representatives from their four county service area. EAAA's mission is to provide older adults, caregivers and adults with disabilities in Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Washington counties in Maine with the information and access to resources they need to be healthy, engaged and supported in their communities.
SeniorsPlus
Incorporated as the Western Maine Older Citizens Council, SeniorsPlus, located in Lewiston, Maine has been serving the needs of seniors since 1972. One of Maine's five Area Agencies on Aging, SeniorsPlus is a private non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation, serving as the Aging and Disability Resource Center for Western Maine (Androscoggin, Oxford, and Franklin Counties).

The Home Care & Hospice Alliance of Maine is an association within which members offer a unified and informed voice in support of affordable, accessible, quality home care and hospice services throughout the State of Maine.
Home Care for Maine
Home Care for Maine specializes in helping older and disabled adults stay at home, where most people want to be. Over 400 trained, compassionate staff support caregivers and family members in need with grocery shopping, housecleaning, medication reminders, rides to medical and other appointments, yard clean-up, baths and dressing, minor home repairs, errands, and companionship.
Maine Council on Aging
The Council’s mission is to build a strong, multidisciplinary network that represents the entire aging continuum that works to improve the lives of older adults in Maine, especially those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged, to act as a voice for older adults and the organizations that serve them, and to promote the safety, independence and well-being of older adults.
Maine Council for Elder Abuse Prevention
The mission of the Maine Council for Elder Abuse Prevention (MCEAP) is to support collaborative efforts to combat elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. MCEAP promotes a unifying vision which addresses elder abuse, and drives this vision by advocating for public policy, supporting collaboration between existing resources, and facilitating cross disciplinary communication. MCEAP acts as a resource for training and education efforts among existing stakeholders.
Maine Gerontological Society
The Maine Gerontological Society is a statewide association of individuals interested in issues impacting older adults in the state of Maine. The Society has the charge of serving as the leading interdisciplinary association on aging in the state focusing on aging education, practice and research in policy perspective.
Maine Health Care Association
Established in 1954, MHCA is a statewide non-profit trade association representing over 200 proprietary, nonprofit, and government-owned providers of long-term care facilities. Governed by a Board of Directors, MHCA is the largest advocacy organization for facility-based long term care providers in Maine. MHCA's membership includes nursing homes and assisted living/residential care facilities (also known as PNMIs). Members provide a range of long term care services that may include skilled nursing, rehabilitation or post-acute care, hospice, adult day care and independent living services.
Maine Legal Services for the Elderly
Providing free, high quality legal services to Maine’s socially and economically needy elderly age 60 and over. Their helpline can be reached at 1-800-750-5353
Maine Long Term Care Ombudsman Program
Advocating for quality of life and care for long term care consumers with federal and state law authority to investigate complaints made by or on behalf of long-term care consumers and to assist consumers in exercising their rights that are guaranteed by law. An office within the Maine Department of Health and Human Services promoting programs and services for Maine’s aging population and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, autism, and brain injury.
SAGE Maine (Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders)
Working to improve quality of life for older gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender (GLBT) adults living in Maine through advocacy, education and social supports.
Senior Talk Podcasts
Senior Talk with Carol Higgins Taylor is a weekly half-hour program designed with seniors in mind. Senior Talk covers subjects that relate to the lives of seniors and caregivers. Senior Talk’s goal is to bring people information that is important to them – programs, services, and agencies – anything that can improve their quality of life. Senior Talk podcasts are sponsored exclusively by AARP Maine.
